About OPI

The Victorian Government established the Office of Police Integrity (OPI) in November 2004.

OPI became a permanent standing body in 2007 and the Police Integrity Act was proclaimed in 2008.

Our role is to ensure that Victoria Police maintain the highest ethical and professional standards.

We detect, investigate and prevent police corruption and serious misconduct, and ensure that members of Victoria Police have regard to the human rights set out in the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities. We are also responsible for educating Victoria Police and the community regarding police corruption and serious misconduct, and their effects.

The Director, Police Integrity is vested with a number of powers to carry out the work of the office and he ensures that they are utilised responsibly and transparently.

In addition, OPI employees have a range of specialist skills and experience and a committed and diligent approach.
