At OPI, we employ an action-based research methodology to address issues around police misconduct and corruption, leading to the prevention of these. Police stakeholders are involved in the research process and this encourages police to make choices, leading to an improvement in both professionalism and delivery of policing services to the community.

OPI’s research utilises continuous environmental scanning techniques to identify problems and develop strategies to solve them. Our current areas of research encompass improper criminal associations, leadership practices, police and the sex industry, maladministration and police mobility.

Through this important research, we begin to build a knowledge base that will inform and direct future activities in preventing police corruption.
